The Bodu Bala Sena - an
extremist and anti-Sri Lankan group held a meeting at Maharagama in the
Colombo District. At the meeting several anti-Muslim statements were made
including the distribution of printed material spreading hate against
Muslims.

A short message seeking to
cause anti – Muslim hatred was being circulated on mobile phone networks. The
message stated that Muslim extremists were planning to attack Sinhala
Buddhists and that Muslims with weapons training were already stationed in
places. A written complaint was forwarded to the Secretary – Ministry of
Defence, the Inspector General of Police and others.

another meeting in Melsiripura in the Kurunegala District and the
organisation continued its anti-Muslim rhetoric.

A Muslim owned driving school
has been forced to close down by a Buddhist priest. The driving school is
located near the Sabaragamuwa University. The owner went to the Samanalawewa
Police station to make a complaint but the Police have not recorded his
complaint.

A female Muslim doctor
serving at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital was attacked and subject to
verbal abuse by a Sinhalese male. The suspect was arrested subsequently and
released as the complainant did not wish to pursue the matter any further.

The District Medical Officer
attached to the Deltota Divisional Hospital Dr K G Dissanayake has ordered
that all Muslim women must remove their shawls, hijabs, purdahs and abaya etc
if they wish to receive treatment.

remove her hijab and abaya by the nurses serving at the ward.

disorderly and racist conduct was reported from the vicinity of the
Nelliyagama Jummah Masjid in Palagala in the Anuradhapura district. A
complaint was lodged with the Inspector General of Police particularly with
regard to Police inaction.

servant was attacked by a two men in a motor cycle in Manampitiya in the
Polonnaruwa District. They ripped off her hijab as they rode past her.

another meeting at Kandy. At the meeting several anti-Muslim statements were
made including a statement by Mawathagama Pemanandahimi who stated that the
Holy Quran orders Muslims to spit three time before serving food to non-Muslims.

Around 20 male and female
Muslim Samurdhi recipients from Baduwatte, Eheliyagoda who had gone to a
temple in Udathalawitiya, Eheliyagoda in the Ratnapura District to receive
their payments were asked to remove their Islamic attire as a pre-condition
to receiving their Samurdhi payments. A group returned without any Samurdhi
benefits as they refused to comply.

organisation. A protest march was also organised however on the intervention
of the range Deputy Inspector General of Police, the protest march was
cancelled.

contacting the Police on 119 emergency hotline the Payagala Police have
visited the scene.

meeting at the Mahajana Grounds in Kekirewa in the Anuradhapura. The speakers
made several anti-Muslim and inflammatory remarks.

retailer ‘Fashion Bug’ and another Muslim owned heavy machinery hiring
establishment were attacked by a Sinhalese mob and caused injury to employees
and media personnel apart from causing severe damage to buildings.
Suspects were produced
before the Gangodawila Magistrate and the complainant settled the matter.

owners who have rented their shops to Muslims to ask for the premises to be
vacated. The news was publicised as Elpitiya being ‘liberated’ from Muslims.
